Policies and Guidelines
Non-credit means courses do not count for University-level credit towards a degree or diploma program. Non-credit courses are designed to supplement your existing education and experience. There is more flexibility in the learning objectives and they are taught by experienced industry professionals who are currently working or have dedicated experience in the field. Many of the courses offered for professional and personal development are noncredit courses. More information about non-credit courses can be found in our non-credit policy documentation.
Sometimes the School of Continuing Education partners with outside institutions to provide access to a greater variety of courses. Because of this, our gift certificates and discounts can only be applied to MacEwan owned noncredit courses.
If you have any questions about the status of a course, please contact us at (780) 497-4400 or sce@macewan.ca.
This policy is currently under review.
Refunds for courses more than four weeks long
For courses more than four weeks in length, a 100 percent refund is available to students who withdraw before the day of the second scheduled class in a face-to-face course unless exceptions are stipulated in the program guide and/or registration forms.
Courses less than four weeks long
For workshops, seminars and short courses that are four weeks or less, a 100 percent refund is available to students who withdraw five calendar days before the first scheduled class unless exceptions are stipulated in the program guide and/or registration forms. No refund is available after the deadline date.
Courses offered on behalf of other institutions
When courses are offered on behalf of another learning institution or agency, the refund category will be in accordance with the signed contract. Please contact the School of Continuing Education for details and deadlines.
Admission confirmation deposits
A portion of the admission confirmation deposit may be refundable for domestic students. International admission confirmation deposits are non-refundable.
Students will be enrolled in their courses prior to start of class and there will be no schedule changes permitted. Students will have until the Add/Drop deadline (for more information, click here) to withdraw from their program without term fee charges.
You must have a minimum of 80 percent in-class attendance in order to successfully complete the course or to receive a professional development certificate. Some courses may require 100 percent attendance for successful completion and students will be informed in class.
You are considered a full-time student if you are enrolled in all of the required courses for your program each term.
MacEwan University reserves the right to restrict enrolment or to cancel any class for which there is insufficient enrolment. If the course you have enrolled in is cancelled, we will make every effort to contact you prior to the start date. Fees for cancelled classes will be refunded or applied to another course.
